Why the hell hasn't the Mini Clubman been praised as the second coming around here?!

I mean, it's a suicide doored, wagon (or shooting brake, depending on how you look at it) supermini that just so happens to have one of the best FWD chassis on the market AND is readily available with a manual! The only thing I've heard about it is that Clarkson think's it's ugly and TG reviewers don't get why you would get a JCW one over a GTI, but still. Supermini shooting brake guise! How the fuck is that not awesome? Put your money where your mouth is and buy one!

The only flaw with them is the price... starts at $21; but it is like a Porsche.. fully loaded will run you $45,000! I built a Clubman JCW with all options and it came out to $49,000... its a bit much

Mostly it's it's ugliness.

I don't mind the looks at all, but I'd imagine that the main dealbreaker for most people (and likely myself as well) is the barn doors' impact on visibility.

My parents have a base Clubman. Its is a nice car, great on long drives. I would say it is a bit more comfortable than the regular Coopers, a smidge more room and less choppiness on the freeway. The one thing I don't like about it is that large green house that you get by having the dual glass roof. Window tinting is a must if you wish to stay cool with out overtaxing the AC. It is a decent tossable platform but I shudder to think what it will cost in upkeep once the warranty and service plan end.

At first I wasn't thrilled about the clubman, but the more I drove it the more I ended up liking it. I've driven it up to Portland from southern california 2 in the past 2 or 3 years. I think the initial buy in of the S models is a bit steep but they are kinda worth it as long as you think of it along the line of it being a long term rental that you sell or trade in in 3 years. My sister bought an S 'vert and my god the sport button makes that exhaust pop and burble on lift off. The turbo S' like to pop on overrun and is really hard not to press that button when I get into that car.

Well, I really like it. Was actually kind of trying to think of a clever way to afford one a while back, but other projects and somewhat limited income...

I like the Clubby but I didn't need the extra space, so I went with an R53. I may pick one up if I even need the space.

coupla reasons that are already stated here to which I will add:

a. seriously bad cars for the money, as in, poorly built

b. the fun ones are too stiff and uncomfortable

c. still not big enough to justify its ugly/cutsie

but the main one is cost. you pay so much and get so little in return.

It's slightly better than the GTi of today.

It's one of the few small vehicles with almost enough cargo space to take place of my SPG (can it fit a full-size fridge?), but the price/value throws it almost entirely out the window.

In what way is the mini better? Its less reliable, smaller, more expensive, slower and harsher riding.

Take that times 2 for the GTi. And it just has a lace of beige in the Golf.
